Saint Paul Public Schools issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
With support from Xcel Energy Partners in Energy, Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) is inviting students to compete in the Home Energy Action Talent (H.E.A.T.) contest. Entries are being accepted between Monday, December 7, and Friday, December 18. Students have a chance to win a first prize of $100 or second prize of $50 for creating a one-minute video showing what they can do to save energy.
Max Marckel, Minnesota Green Corps Member assigned to Saint Paul Public Schools, is running the contest. "We tested this idea with a small group of students and were amazed by what they created," said Marckel. "The students who we tested the contest idea with were so enthusiastic and the creativity shown in the videos indicated to us that this idea could be very popular with all of our students."
Entries will be judged in one of three age categories: Elementary, Junior High and High School. All of the details of the contest are available on the contest website.
Prize money has been donated by Xcel Energy and winners will be announced on January 11, 2021.
