The City of Saint Paul announced that Ayd Mill Road has been upgraded and resurfaced to include a bicycle lane and off-street pedestrian trail, at slower speeds enforced at 35 MPH.

Ayd Mill Road reopened to traffic from Interstate 35E to Selby Ave. with the new features on Nov. 7.

Approximately 1.5 miles, the roadway was closed last Aug. 1 to construct a three-lane street with two southbound lanes and one northbound lane, with the combination biking and hiking trail on its east side.

Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter indicated the mixed-use road and its slower speed will result in a safer and more enjoyable alternative for residents.

“Ayd Mill Road has challenged our city for over a generation,” Carter said. “Reimagining this critical route as a complete street we can all use and enjoy demonstrates our community's commitment to our residents and our planet alike.”

In the past Ayd Mill Road was known as a dangerous high-speed pot-hole packed shortcut between Interstate 35E and Selby.

The improvements cost a reported $7.5 million.
