Representative Betty McCollum, who serves Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address legislative inaction, public health concerns, and environmental issues.

On October 19, 2025, McCollum posted, "The House of Representatives has not voted in a month. It’s time for Congressional Republicans to come back to Washington, get to work, reopen the government, swear in Congresswoman-elect Grijalva, and most importantly: End the healthcare crisis they created." This statement highlights her concerns about the ongoing lack of legislative activity and urges her colleagues to address pressing issues, including the healthcare situation and government operations.

Later that day, McCollum expressed gratitude to a local institution for its environmental efforts, stating, "Thank you to the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center for helping over 1,000 ailing birds of prey affected by bird flu and complications of climate change." The University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center has played a significant role in wildlife rehabilitation amid rising threats from disease and environmental changes.

On October 20, 2025, McCollum criticized Congressional Republicans, writing, "Congressional Republicans spent the summer stripping away Americans' health care to give permanent tax cuts to billionaires and corporations. They've spent the fall hiding the Epstein Files, shutting the government, and spiking health care costs. Promises made, promises broken."

McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th District in Congress since 2001, succeeding Bruce Vento. She previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954, McCollum resides in Saint Paul and is an alumna of St. Catherine University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1987.
