U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who serves Minnesota’s 4th district, used her social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and issue a public scam warning in mid-October 2025.
On October 14, McCollum posted about the government shutdown, stating, “It’s clear that Republicans are uninterested in showing up to Washington to end the multi-week government shutdown they created. I’m in DC along with many of my Democratic colleagues as we fight to save the Affordable Care Act and re-open the government.” Later that day, she followed up with another message: “There's something really fishy going on in Washington. It's time for Congress to get back to work.”
The following day, on October 15, McCollum issued a public service announcement regarding fraudulent communications: “SCAM Alert: If you or a loved one receive a letter, text, or email from the U.S. Supreme Court encouraging cooperation with an ongoing legal proceeding, do not engage or provide info.
