Representative Bidal Duran has issued a reminder to Minnesota residents about the upcoming Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program, which is set to begin on January 1, 2026. The new program will offer paid time off for most workers in the state during significant life events.

Under the PFML program, eligible employees can receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave for their own medical needs and another 12 weeks for family care, with a total cap of 20 weeks per year. Qualifying reasons for leave include the birth or adoption of a child, serious health conditions affecting themselves or a family member, and certain military-related events.

“This program will impact families, workers, and employers across the state,” Duran said. “Whether you see this as a positive change or have concerns about how it will work, I encourage you to reach out to my office. Your feedback matters, and I want to make sure your voice is part of the conversation as this program gets closer to launching.”

Residents who have questions or comments about the PFML program are encouraged to contact Representative Duran’s office by email at rep.bidal.duran@house.mn.gov or by phone at 651-296-4265.
