Representative Bidal Duran of Bemidji issued a statement following the deaths of Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were killed in what authorities have described as a targeted act of violence. In his statement, Duran expressed condolences to the families affected and commented on the ongoing investigation.

"I am heartbroken and deeply angered by the news that my colleague, Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark were tragically killed in a senseless act of targeted violence. My thoughts and prayers are with their family, loved ones, and all those grieving this devastating loss.

I am also praying for Senator Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, as they fight to recover from this horrific attack. No one should ever have to endure such trauma, especially those who have dedicated their lives to public service.

Violence like this will never be tolerated in our state. Law enforcement officers at both the state and federal levels are working around the clock to bring the suspect into custody and ensure justice is served.

I ask that you keep the victims and their families in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time."

Authorities are continuing their efforts at both state and federal levels to apprehend the suspect involved in the incident.
