The 2025 legislative session in Minnesota has concluded, but the work for lawmakers is not finished as they prepare for a special session. The timeline for when this special session will begin remains unclear.
Representative Duran of District 2A commented on the situation, noting the impact of delays earlier in the year. "The 23 days the House spent idle at the start of session back in February have proven to be incredibly consequential. Minnesotans deserve a Legislature that uses every day wisely, and I’ll continue pushing to make sure the final budget reflects the values and priorities of our district," Duran stated.
Among the accomplishments cited was the passage of the Veterans and Military Affairs bill over the weekend. This legislation provides support for housing, mental health care, and workforce development aimed at veterans. Duran, who is a veteran, expressed pride in supporting what he described as bipartisan legislation.
Another point raised by Representative Duran was regarding a blocked bill that would have established an independent Office of the Inspector General to oversee state agencies and address fraud and abuse. "This approach has worked in other states and was even based on language from the Senate DFL. Unfortunately, politics got in the way of good policy," said Duran.
While progress was made on some issues during regular session, several significant bills remain unresolved and are expected to be addressed during the upcoming special session.
Duran concluded by assuring constituents he would provide updates as developments occur: "Thank you for the honor of representing you at the Capitol."
