As the 2025 legislative session comes to a close, Representative Ben Bakeberg (R, Jordan) has highlighted several legislative measures he supported or authored that were included in the final omnibus bills. These measures address education reform, workforce development, transportation funding, and public safety.
“I came to St. Paul to get things done for our students, teachers, and communities, and I’m proud of what we accomplished this session,” said Rep. Bakeberg. “From innovative education reforms to stronger workforce pipelines, we laid important groundwork that I look forward to building on next year.”
In education policy, Bakeberg played a role in advancing legislation such as HF 1435. This bill allows school districts more autonomy by enabling them to implement innovation zone plans and P-TECH models without requiring commissioner approval. He also supported HF 2489, which expands allowable epinephrine delivery methods in schools.
To standardize attendance tracking statewide, Bakeberg co-authored HF 62 and HF 2067. These bills update definitions of school absences and reporting procedures. He also backed HF 2786 to tighten grant requirements at the Minnesota Department of Education with the goal of reducing fraud and increasing accountability. Additionally, HF 630 makes permanent a pilot program for short-call substitute teachers—a measure aimed at addressing staffing shortages—and HF 51 permits all districts to include roof repairs in their Long-Term Facilities Maintenance plans.
Bakeberg’s focus on workforce development is reflected in his authorship of HF 1439, which creates the “Carts to Careers” program for students interested in food industry careers through training and scholarships. He also authored HF 1847 supporting STEM learning ecosystems across Minnesota and co-authored HF 1538 establishing a statewide registered apprenticeship program for teachers.
In transportation infrastructure, Bakeberg sponsored HF 202 to ensure proper funding for the Highway 169/282 interchange project in Jordan by resolving a technical issue that redirects funds to MnDOT. The bill also gives the City of Shakopee authority over signage lighting on a new pedestrian overpass.
On public safety issues affecting local waterways, Bakeberg co-authored HF 1355 setting new safety standards for commercial diving operations involved in aquatic plant management.
Rep. Bakeberg described these achievements as results of bipartisan cooperation focused on practical solutions. Looking ahead to next year’s session, he plans continued advocacy for flexible education funding and responsible budgeting.
“We brought good ideas to the table and got them across the finish line,” Bakeberg said. “Next session, I’ll keep fighting for schools, families, and the local communities I’m proud to represent.”
