U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who serves Minnesota’s 4th district, recently used her social media platform to highlight community engagement and address national concerns in a series of posts.
On August 6, 2025, McCollum thanked local residents for hosting her at a town hall meeting focused on federal benefit programs. In her post she stated: "Thanks to the residents of @SholomLife for welcoming me to their home for a town hall to talk about the need to protect and strengthen Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid as they are under threat in Washington. I appreciated our conversation!"
Later that day, McCollum expressed gratitude toward community organizations and law enforcement involved in a neighborhood event. She wrote: "Thanks to the East Side Boys & Girls Club, the City of Stillwater, and Stillwater Police Department for bringing us all together for #NationalNightOut!" (August 6, 2025).
On August 7, 2025, McCollum addressed a recent violent incident at Fort Stewart by posting: "I am heartbroken and angered by the mass shooting that took place at Fort Stewart. I’m grateful for the swift response by law enforcement whose brave actions helped save the lives of the five service members who were wounded in the attack."
McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th congressional district since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001. Before her tenure in Congress began that year, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
