U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress, shared a series of updates on her official social media account regarding the U.S. Coast Guard anniversary, environmental policy decisions affecting Minnesota, and local infrastructure maintenance.
On August 4, 2025, McCollum acknowledged the anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard by stating, "As the U.S. Coast Guard celebrates its 235th birthday, thank you to all the courageous coast guard members who safeguard our waterways and are always be ready to serve and save lives!"
Later that day, she criticized federal actions concerning environmental management near the Boundary Waters. In her post dated August 4, 2025, McCollum wrote, "In defiance of the scientific findings of the U.S. Forest Service, the Trump Administration is taking the first step to open the door to mining that would cause toxic acid drainage to pollute the pristine waters flowing into the Boundary Waters. This is a terrible decision."
On August 5, 2025, McCollum informed constituents about potential travel disruptions: "If you’re traveling across the St. Croix River bridge expect delays as maintenance crews work on the bridge. Work is scheduled today through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM"
McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th District in Congress since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul at age 68, she graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
