U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, used her social media platform this week to criticize former President Donald Trump’s economic and health care policies.

On July 30, McCollum posted a message marking the anniversary of two major federal health programs: "Happy 60th birthday to Medicare and Medicaid! Seniors, children, working parents, and people with disabilities receive the health care they need and live in dignity and greater financial security thanks to these life-saving programs. Sadly, President Trump and Congressional".

Two days later, on August 1, she addressed recent employment trends by writing: "Americans are losing their jobs and employers aren't hiring due to President Trump's reckless economic policies and tariffs."

Later that same day, McCollum continued her criticism with another post: "Trump's weak jobs report clearly shows that his reckless economic agenda and erratic tariffs are hurting Americans. A leader would re-evaluate and correct course. Instead, Trump just fired the messenger."

McCollum has been an active figure in Minnesota politics for decades. She began her legislative career in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001 before moving to Congress where she succeeded Bruce Vento. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul at age 68, McCollum holds a BA from St. Catherine University (1987).
