Eric Pratt announces congressional bid for Minnesota’s Second District

Eric Pratt, a Minnesota state senator, announced his candidacy for Congress in Minnesota’s Second District through a series of posts on July 21, 2025. In his initial announcement, Pratt stated, “It’s official. I’m running for Congress in Minnesota’s Second District. Minnesota’s 2nd District deserves experienced leadership in Washington so we can get to work on lowering costs for Minnesota families, creating more educational opportunities for students, keeping our” (July 21, 2025).

Later the same day, Pratt referenced the “America First” agenda as a motivation behind his campaign. He quoted another statement and commented: “‘The America First agenda is built upon the premised on action, not words and fixing things, not working on things. Based on Sen. Pratt's statement, backed by his record, it sounds like Sen. Pratt is an America First type.’ This is my motivation to run for MN CD-2…Thanks!” (July 21, 2025).

On the evening of July 21st, Pratt also shared condolences regarding the passing of Senator Bruce Anderson: “I am heartbroken to hear that my friend and colleague, Senator Bruce Anderson, passed away today. Bruce was a true public servant who was a true champion for veterans. From his military service in Vietnam, and later in the National Guard & Reserves, to his work in the Minnesota” (July 21, 2025).

Eric Pratt has served as a Republican member of the Minnesota Senate since 2013 and represents Senate District 55.
