U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, used her social media platform to address recent legal and legislative developments affecting education funding, disability rights, and public broadcasting.

On July 15, 2025, McCollum expressed support for Minnesota's legal action against the Trump Administration regarding student funding. She wrote, "UPDATE: Thanks to @AGEllison, Minnesota is standing up for our students by suing the Trump Administration for this funding."

Two days later, on July 17, McCollum marked Disability Pride Month and highlighted a local event. She posted, "As we celebrate Disability Pride Month this July, I'm proud to join Minnesotans in commemorating the 35th anniversary of the ADA. Today from 10AM-1PM, Minnesotans can celebrate the 3rd annual Disability Pride Festival at the State Capitol! More info at: https://t.co/jE6NIfvLF2"

Later that day, she commented on efforts in Congress to protect public broadcasting. According to her tweet on July 17: "NEW: I'm leading nearly 50 Members of Congress in fighting back against Donald Trump's attacks on public broadcasting. Local public media outlets don't just keep us informed — they provide real-time information to keep Americans safe during emergencies and natural disasters."

McCollum’s recent posts reflect ongoing priorities in her congressional work. She has served as a U.S. Representative since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
