Rep. Betty McCollum, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 4th district since 2001, has recently shared her thoughts on various pressing issues via social media.
On June 16, 2025, McCollum expressed gratitude towards law enforcement officials who worked tirelessly to apprehend a suspect. She stated, "I am profoundly grateful for the local, state, and federal law enforcement officials who have tirelessly worked around the clock for the past 48 hours to track down the suspect and bring him to justice. Our communities are safer thanks to their efforts."
The following day, on June 17, McCollum reflected on a personal loss while quoting inspiring words from the children of Melissa and Mark Hortman. She wrote, "As I mourn the loss of Melissa and Mark Hortman, I’m inspired by the words of their adult children Sophia and Colin: 'Hope and resilience are the enemy of fear.'"
Later that day, she criticized President Trump's actions concerning Minnesota's situation by stating his refusal to communicate with Governor Walz was neglectful. McCollum remarked that "By refusing to call Governor Walz, President Trump refuses to acknowledge the pain and grief that Minnesotans are experiencing right now."
Betty McCollum was born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently resides in Saint Paul. She holds a BA from St. Catherine University.
