Rep. Betty McCollum, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 4th district, has expressed her concerns over recent international relations decisions by President Trump through a series of tweets. McCollum, who has been in office since 2001 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives, is known for her advocacy on foreign policy issues.
On March 4, 2025, Rep. McCollum criticized the treatment of Canada by President Trump, stating: "Our Canadian brothers and sisters have always been good neighbors to us Minnesotans. The way the President is treating Canada is despicable, and I’m speaking out against it."
The following day, March 5, she voiced her disapproval of what she perceives as a shift in U.S. foreign policy towards Russia under President Trump's administration: "In a stunning reversal of America’s support for our democratic allies around the world since the end of World War II, President Trump is choosing the world view of Russia’s war criminal president, Vladimir Putin."
Later that same day, Rep. McCollum addressed concerns regarding U.S. military support for Ukraine: "Suddenly withdrawing U.S. support for Ukraine will not save the Defense Department a single penny. To the contrary, it will embolden President Putin, who will return later with a stronger military — costing the American taxpayer more in the long-run."
