General Duty Statement

Are you looking for an on-call, part-time job during the winter season? The Department of Public Works is looking to hire individuals as Snow Ticketing Personnel who are available to work on short notice for the 2019-2020 snow season. This is a temporary position for on-call work for City of Saint Paul declared Snow Emergencies.

Information about the Position:

The Snow Ticketing Personnel will only work when a Snow Emergency is declared in Saint Paul. The number of Snow Emergencies and when they occur varies each year depending on the weather.

Hours:

On call as needed for snow emergencies declared by the City of Saint Paul and on an irregular basis throughout the season.

Must be able to work one of these shifts during the snow emergency:

8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The primary job responsibilities are:

Issuing citations (tickets) to vehicles not in compliance with snow emergency ordinances.

Safely operating a City vehicle.

Additional Position Information:

Work will be conducted under adverse weather conditions of snow and cold temperatures; so appropriate attire is needed.

The City will supply work materials such as vehicles, flashlights, high visibility vests, pens, two-way radios, and citation books.

One or two people are assigned to each vehicle for the ticketing operations.

All workers represent the City of Saint Paul and must use good customer service skills and comply with performance expectations.

All workers are required to represent the City of Saint Paul in court if a parking citation you have written is contested at a later date. Workers will be paid four (4) hours for appearing in court.

Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Be at least 18 years of age or older

Possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license

Have strong oral communication skills

Have clear, legible handwriting skills

Have the ability to perform the following physical requirements:

Enter in and out of a vehicle numerous times during a work shift

Work at night

Work in hazardous winter conditions including snow, cold, and ice

No experience is necessary. The City will provide training and equipment, including a City vehicle.

Selection Process Information

The selection process will include a review and evaluation of your answers and reference checks.

Temporary Position: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements. These positions are hired to complete short-term assignments such as seasonal jobs. Temporary employees are considered at will employees. This means you (the employee), or City of Saint Paul (the employer), may end the employment at any time for any reason. Benefits are not provided for this position. This temporary position will end in the spring of 2020.

Condition of Employment: This position will require a driver's license check. Proof of a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license at the time of application and at the time of employment.
