Rep. Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on her social media account recognizing community efforts and local achievements in early November 2025.

On November 8, McCollum expressed condolences following the passing of a prominent journalist, writing: "My sincere condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and loyal readers of Wallace “Jack” O’Neil Jackman, who leaves behind a lasting legacy of service and dedication to community and journalism with over 20 years of work at the Minnesota Spokesman Recorder."

The following day, she thanked local officials for their support during a government shutdown: "Thank you to the City of Saint Paul for hosting a food drive for community members affected by the government shut down. There will be four sites across the city. Donations of shelf-stable food and hygiene products are welcome." (November 9).

Later that same day, McCollum congratulated participants in an educational program: "Congratulations to this year’s cohort of Hamline University’s Teacher Field School, an immersive nature-based professional development program for K-12 teachers to reduce stress and burnout while providing tools to benefit students with nature-based lessons and activities." (November 9).

McCollum has served in Congress since 2001 after replacing Bruce Vento. She previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until her election to Congress. Born in Minneapolis in 1954, McCollum is currently a resident of Saint Paul. She graduated from St. Catherine University with a bachelor’s degree in 1987.
