U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, posted a series of messages on her official social media account addressing community nutrition assistance, the ongoing government shutdown, and voter participation.
On November 3, 2025, McCollum highlighted her visit to a local organization, writing: "I'm at Hallie Q. Brown Community Center in Saint Paul this morning with @AGEllison to highlight the importance of SNAP nutrition assistance for Minnesotans. Tune in to listen to our conversation!"
Later that day, she addressed the federal government shutdown, stating: "Tomorrow, Republicans will match their own record for the longest government shutdown in American history: 35 days. And yet, they still refuse to negotiate with Democrats to end the health care and hunger crises they created. @SpeakerJohnson: Bring Congress back to Washington!" This comment comes as partisan disagreements have led to a prolonged halt in federal operations.
On November 4, McCollum encouraged civic engagement on Election Day: "Election Day is here! Our democracy thrives when everyone’s voice is heard, so make sure to cast your ballot by 8 P.M. tonight — and bring a friend or family member with you. McCollum has been an active political figure both nationally and locally for decades. She succeeded Bruce Vento in Congress after his tenure ended in 2001 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
