Rep. Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to highlight both local sports and federal nutrition assistance issues.

On October 30, 2025, McCollum expressed support for high school athletes, stating, "Good luck to our East Metro high school girls soccer teams in their state championship games this week! Finals take place Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium. Stillwater faces defending champion Wayzata at 8 am, and Mahtomedi faces Blake at 12:30."

Later that day, she addressed concerns regarding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In one post dated October 30, 2025, McCollum wrote, "Over 440,000 Minnesota seniors, children, working parents, veterans and those with disabilities rely on SNAP to put food on the table. These people and 42 million Americans nationwide should not go hungry because of Trump’s actions. Read the legislators’ full letter here https://t.co/pGZsDfBbRs".

In a related tweet from the same date, she added her support for state lawmakers: "I commend the 86 Minnesota Legislators who are calling on President Trump to allow vital SNAP food assistance to continue for thousands of Minnesotans. Congress already provided contingency funds for this situation, but President Trump has ordered USDA not to use it."

McCollum has served in Congress since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. She was born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently resides in Saint Paul. McCollum earned her BA from St. Catherine University in 1987.
