Rep. Betty McCollum, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district since 2001, has recently used her social media platform to comment on congressional representation, healthcare policy, and federal appointments.
On October 20, 2025, McCollum posted about the delay in swearing in Congresswoman-elect Grijalva: "Every additional day that Speaker Johnson refuses to swear in Congresswoman-elect Grijalva, he continues to deny the people of Arizona their voice in Congress. It's taxation without representation, plain and simple. It’s time to swear her in immediately!"
The following day, October 21, 2025, she criticized Republican fiscal priorities regarding health care and tax legislation: "Washington Republicans would have you believe that a temporary extension of Obamacare tax credits is just too expensive — but those same Republicans permanently extended enormous tax cuts for billionaires and giant corporations just three months ago."
Later on October 21, McCollum addressed President Trump’s nomination of Paul Ingrassia to lead the Office of Special Counsel: "President Trump nominated Paul Ingrassia to lead the Office of Special Counsel — an independent federal watchdog that fights corruption, protects whistleblowers from discrimination, and enforces the Hatch Act. The President must withdraw his nomination immediately."
McCollum's public service career began with her tenure in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until her election to Congress in 2001. She succeeded Bruce Vento as representative for Minnesota's 4th district and has remained active on legislative issues since then. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum is also a graduate of St. Catherine University.
