U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who serves Minnesota’s 4th district, recently addressed the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack and ongoing efforts for peace in the Middle East through a series of posts on her official social media account.
On October 7, 2025, McCollum posted, "Today marks two years since Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack – a day that saw 1,200 innocent Israelis killed, thousands more injured, and 251 taken hostage. I am spending today reflecting on and remembering those who lost their lives and those who have yet to be returned home to".
The following day, October 8, she commented on the importance of tolerance and safety within her home state, writing, "Hate and antisemitism have no place in Minnesota. https://t.co/5kBXRhvIUB".
On October 9, McCollum addressed recent developments in the Israel-Gaza conflict, stating, "Just over two years since the October 7 attack, peace in Gaza and Israel may finally be on the horizon. This initial ceasefire agreement is the first step in a long and arduous process of ensuring peace and stability in the region, and a long-awaited reprieve for the civilians in".
Betty McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress since 2001, succeeding Bruce Vento. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954, McCollum resides in Saint Paul and graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
