U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, posted a series of statements on October 7, 2025, addressing recent federal policy decisions and the passing of a Minnesota firefighter.

In a tweet posted at 14:18 UTC, McCollum criticized former President Donald Trump’s fiscal policies, stating, "President Trump continues to order cruel cuts to the basic government services that Americans rely on. Instead of working to lower the cost of living, he's extending tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires while keeping the federal government shuttered."

Later that day, at 15:20 UTC, McCollum expressed condolences regarding a local tragedy: "I'm saddened by the passing of Minnesota wildland firefighter Isabella Grace Oscarson, who dedicated her life to the preservation of our public lands, stewardship of our natural environment, and ensuring the safety of the public."

In another post at 15:46 UTC, McCollum alleged that Trump was penalizing Minnesota following the 2024 presidential election results: "President Trump is retaliating against Minnesota for voting against him in the 2024 presidential election by canceling over $600 million in federal energy grants that would have made for a safer, more efficient, more resilient energy grid. Childish."

Betty McCollum, born in Minneapolis in 1954, has a long history of public service, including prior tenure in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. She is an alumna of St. Catherine University, where she earned her BA in 1987, and currently resides in Saint Paul.
