Rep. Betty McCollum addresses marathon event and raises questions on Venezuela actions

Rep. Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on her social media account in early October 2025, addressing both local events and national political issues.

On October 4, McCollum highlighted an upcoming community event: "The 44th annual Twin Cities Marathon is this weekend, bringing athletes from around the world together for a good cause. To learn about where and how to watch the race, or plan around closures and detours, read more: https://t.co/AdqiMZRFgY" (October 4, 2025).

Later that day, she raised concerns regarding executive military actions abroad: "President Trump has failed to answer Congress’ questions about the military actions he has ordered off the coast of Venezuela. If the President thinks he needs to take military action against cartels, then he should come to Congress and ask for an Authorization for Use of" (October 4, 2025).

Two days later, McCollum questioned congressional leadership with another post: "Mr. Speaker, why aren't you calling Congress back to Washington? https://t.co/inOl0bBhlU" (October 6, 2025).

McCollum has served as a member of Congress since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001 and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul at age 68, she is also an alumna of St. Catherine University.
