Representative Bidal Duran (R–Bemidji) has issued a statement following the death of political activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. In his remarks, Rep. Duran expressed sorrow over the incident and highlighted the importance of free speech and public debate.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of Charlie Kirk. His loss is tragic and shakes all of us who value free speech and public discourse.

We need to mourn this moment, but we must not be silenced. It is more important than ever to protect the right of every American to speak their mind, to engage in respectful public debate, and to come together in open, constructive dialogue.

Political violence does not belong in our society. It does not change minds. It is the last tool of an individual without an argument.

As we grieve, let us also resolve to honor Charlie’s memory by standing up for the freedoms that allow us all to express convictions without fear.”
