U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, used her social media platform this week to address recent political developments and community events.
On October 3, McCollum alleged that former President Donald Trump was retaliating against certain states following the 2024 presidential election. She stated, "President Trump seeks to exact retribution on residents of 12 states that voted against him in the 2024 presidential election by illegally rescinding funding for clean energy projects. It's illegal, it's short-sighted, and it once again demonstrates that Trump has no intention of" (posted October 3, 2025).
Later the same day, she criticized House Republicans for their decision regarding legislative proceedings. McCollum wrote on October 3: "House Republicans just announced that they're cancelling votes next week. They're not even pretending to be interested in ending the health care crisis and government shutdown they created!"
On October 4, McCollum highlighted a local cultural event: "The 5th Annual Mid-Autumn Festival returns to Lake Phalen Park bringing family-friendly activities and an opportunity to experience the diverse rich culture and history of harvest moon holiday celebrations."
McCollum’s comments come amid ongoing political tension following the 2024 presidential election and a government shutdown affecting federal operations. As a long-serving member of Congress—having first been elected in 2001 after previously serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993—she remains an active voice both nationally and within her district. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum is an alumna of St. Catherine University.
