U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who serves Minnesota’s 4th district, addressed constituents on October 1, 2025, through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the government shutdown and ongoing constituent services.
In her first message posted at 14:55 UTC, McCollum stated, "President Trump and Congressional Republicans have forced our country into a government shutdown, but my office remains open, and my staff will continue to serve the people of Minnesota’s Fourth Congressional district. However, some constituent service requests will be delayed".
Later that day at 20:51 UTC, she reiterated her commitment to serving constituents with a brief post: "My offices remain open and ready to serve you. https://t.co/UGj4UF1hfi".
That evening at 23:42 UTC, McCollum also recognized Yom Kippur with a message for those observing the holiday: "Wishing a blessed Yom Kippur to all Minnesotans observing. May you have an easy and meaningful fast. G'mar Chatima Tovah!"
McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento. She previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum graduated from St. Catherine University with a BA in 1987.
