U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, posted a series of messages on her social media account addressing constitutional values, federal funding debates, and local arts events.
On September 17, 2025, McCollum marked Constitution Day by calling for renewed dedication to the nation’s founding principles. She wrote, "On this Constitution Day, we must reaffirm our commitment to work towards that more perfect union the Constitution sought to create."
The following day, she commented on ongoing discussions regarding federal government funding and the approach taken by House Republican leadership. In her post dated September 18, 2025, McCollum stated: "Republicans say they have a mandate. If House Republican leadership wants to go it alone on federal funding to keep our government open, that's their prerogative. But they shouldn't expect my vote."
Later that same day, McCollum highlighted a local cultural event in St. Paul. She encouraged constituents to participate in the Chroma Zone Mural & Art Festival with her message: "Check out the Chroma Zone Mural & Art Festival in St. Paul’s Creative Enterprise Zone today through Saturday! Enjoy a host of events including artist panels, tours and a block party. Learn more here:"
McCollum was born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently resides in Saint Paul. Before her election to Congress—where she succeeded Bruce Vento—she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until 2001. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Catherine University in 1987.
