After extensive negotiations, a budget agreement was reached late Wednesday night among the Minnesota House, Senate, and Governor’s office. The deal aims to address the state’s structural deficit, which emerged two years ago after significant government expansion and a $10 billion tax increase.
According to Minnesota State Rep. Bidal Duran (R-Solway), “Late Wednesday night, Republicans and Democrats reached a deal that moves us toward restoring balance in our budget. We are wiping out nearly half of the structural deficit created by Democrats just two years ago, when they grew government by 40% and raised taxes by $10 billion. Simply put, we’re cleaning up the mess that came from one-party control.”
Duran highlighted that the new budget plan ensures no tax increases for Minnesota families: “We achieved a long-standing goal for this session: not a single Minnesota family will see a tax increase in this budget.”
While Duran acknowledged that the agreement was finalized later than expected in the legislative session, he described it as an important development for Minnesota. He stated his continued commitment to prioritizing district needs and pursuing solutions focused on working families, students, and alignment with residents’ priorities.
In recognition of National Police Week, Duran expressed appreciation for law enforcement officers: “It is National Police Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the men and women who wear the badge and put their lives on the line to keep us safe. I know what it means to serve, and I know the challenges that come with the job. It takes grit, sacrifice, and heart. I’ve been working this session to make sure our officers have the tools and support they need to do their jobs and get home safe. This week we say thank you to our troopers, deputies, officers, and everyone serving in law enforcement. I will continue to support them through meaningful legislation that helps them do their job effectively and safely.”
Duran also noted Cardinal Robert Prevost’s election as Pope Leo XIV—the first American pope—and voiced hope for his leadership within the Catholic community: “This past week, Cardinal Robert Prevost became Pope Leo XIV – the first American ever elected pope. As a Catholic, I’m hopeful his leadership brings strength, wisdom, and strong guidance for the challenges ahead.”
Duran concluded by reaffirming his focus on representing his district’s interests at the Capitol.
