The 2025 legislative session in Minnesota ended on May 19, but work remains unfinished as a special session is expected soon. While there is no confirmed start date, lawmakers anticipate it could begin next week.
Several budget areas still lack agreement after the working groups' deadline passed without all negotiations resolved. Leadership and the governor are now responsible for finalizing the remaining bills before legislative action can continue.
Bidal Duran, Minnesota State Representative of District 2A, commented on the delays earlier in the year. "This situation is a clear reminder of how important it is to show up on day one ready to work. The House DFL wasted the first 23 days of session earlier this year, time that could have been spent negotiating and moving important bills forward. That delay now has real consequences for Minnesotans, especially our local governments and schools who are waiting on final budget decisions."
Duran emphasized his ongoing commitment: "I remain focused on doing the job you sent me here to do: fighting for a responsible budget, protecting taxpayers, and making sure our veterans, law enforcement, families, and communities get the support they deserve."
In addition to legislative updates, Duran highlighted community events such as the 19th annual Ride for the Troops in Bemidji this weekend. The event includes a car and bike show on Saturday with dinner and live music at the Eagles Club. On Sunday, riders will participate in “The Longest Ride” through northern Minnesota beginning at noon from the Bemidji Eagles Club.
According to Duran: "It’s more than a ride; it’s a powerful show of support for those who’ve worn the uniform and sacrificed for our country. Funds raised help provide vital resources and services for local veterans and military families." Registration information can be found at rideforthetroops.com.
Duran concluded by thanking constituents for staying engaged during this period leading into the special session.
