U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress, recently shared updates on community events and national policy through a series of posts on her official social media account.
On August 23, 2025, McCollum encouraged constituents to attend a local exhibit: "If you’re planning to visit the State Fair, make sure to stop by the Minnesota Science Museum’s Journey to Space exhibit. Thanks to a partnership with NASA, fairgoers can view a piece of moon rock and visit a replica of the International Space Station."
Later that day, she criticized economic policies associated with former President Donald Trump: "President Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill and reckless tariffs are driving up the prices of groceries, clothes, health care, and energy — costing more than 280,000 families in Minnesota’s 4th district an extra $2,040 every year." This statement reflects ongoing debates over tariff impacts on consumer costs.
On August 25, McCollum recognized the Defense Innovation Unit's decade-long contributions: "This year is the tenth anniversary of the Defense Innovation Unit, advancing innovative technologies that support America’s national security. Thank you, @DIU_x Director Doug Beck for your incredible leadership at DIU."
McCollum has served in Congress since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento. She previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until her election to Congress. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum graduated from St. Catherine University with a BA in 1987.
