Rep. Betty McCollum, U.S. Congresswoman representing Minnesota’s 4th district, posted a series of statements on July 15, 2025, addressing recent national and local developments via her official social media account.
In her first post at 14:48 UTC, McCollum criticized the Supreme Court's decision regarding the Education Department under the Trump administration. She wrote, "Students, teachers, and communities across the country will be harmed by the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump administration to continue dismantling the Education Department, even as a court challenge to these damaging cuts continues."
Later that day at 15:21 UTC, she shared information about weather conditions affecting her constituents in Minnesota. McCollum stated, "The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Twin Cities starting today from 12PM – 8PM with high temperatures and humidity. If you plan to be outside for an extended period of time, please plan ahead."
In a third post at 16:01 UTC, McCollum addressed violence in the West Bank involving Palestinian-American Sayfollah ‘Saif’ Musallet. She wrote, "It is horrifying that two young men, including Palestinian-American Sayfollah ‘Saif’ Musallet, were beaten to death in the West Bank by violent settlers. The Israeli government must be held accountable for this unconscionable brutality. My heart goes out to the families and loved".
McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th District in Congress since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, she graduated from St. Catherine University with a BA in 1987.
