Rep. Betty McCollum, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district, has been vocal about her opposition to recent legislative actions and controversial remarks made by a fellow representative. Her statements have sparked conversations around healthcare policy and conduct among lawmakers.
On July 8, 2025, Rep. McCollum criticized what she referred to as "The Big Ugly Bill," asserting that it "rips away healthcare from millions of Americans to give tax breaks to giant corporations and the billionaires who run them." She highlighted an "absurd tax break allowing billionaires to write off their private jets" as a significant concern. The full statement can be accessed here.
Continuing her critique on July 9, 2025, Rep. McCollum targeted the bill again, calling it "Trump’s Big Ugly Bill." She emphasized its impact on ordinary citizens by stating it "delivers a tax break boon for billionaires, but sticks everyone else with the bill." She warned that thousands of Minnesotans would lose their health care and food assistance and mentioned potential increases in energy bills as a result. Her complete commentary is available here.
In another instance on July 10, 2025, McCollum addressed comments made by Rep. Fine towards Rep. Omar, describing them as "dangerous and unacceptable." She urged that there is no justification for such attacks and called for an immediate apology from Rep. Fine after deleting his posts. More details can be found here.
