Rep. Betty McCollum, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district, has been vocal on several issues through her recent social media posts. With a background in political service since 1993 and a BA from St. Catherine University, McCollum addresses concerns ranging from international security to domestic policy.

On June 5, 2025, McCollum expressed concern over the security situation affecting the Somali diaspora in the Twin Cities. She noted that "At 80,000 strong, the Twin Cities are home to the largest Somali diaspora in the world — and I share their concerns about the deteriorating security situation there." She criticized President Trump’s travel ban and his disengagement from Somalia, suggesting these actions would empower terrorists and destabilize the region.

The following day, June 6, she addressed healthcare policy changes proposed by President Trump. In her tweet, she stated: "You've heard about President Trump's scheme to strip away healthcare from working people in order to extend tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires." McCollum hinted at additional noteworthy developments occurring in Washington during that week.

Later on June 6, McCollum extended holiday greetings to those celebrating Eid al-Adha. Her message read: "Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating in Minnesota and around the globe! Wishing peaceful, festive, and joyous days with family and friends for our neighbors commemorating Eid al-Adha."

As a representative of Minnesota's diverse population since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001, McCollum continues to engage with both local and global issues impacting her constituents.
