Rep. Betty McCollum, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 4th district, has voiced her concerns on several issues via social media. Her tweets address recent actions by the Trump administration that she perceives as detrimental to American values and public welfare.

On June 5, 2025, McCollum expressed her disapproval regarding a policy decision by the Trump administration that permits hospitals to refuse care to pregnant women in critical health situations. She stated, "This is outrageous. The Trump admin is giving permission to hospitals to turn away pregnant women whose health is in danger."

Later that day, McCollum criticized President Trump's immigration policies, which she believes contradict America's foundational principles of freedom and justice. She tweeted at 15:55 UTC: "For 250 years, America has been a beacon of freedom, justice, and democracy to the world – a light of hope and opportunity. President Trump betrays our American values by his actions to restrict those from countries he doesn’t like, including Laos, Afghanistan, and Burma."

At 17:02 UTC on the same day, McCollum condemned a legislative proposal supported by President Trump and House Republicans known as the 'Big Beautiful Bill.' According to McCollum's tweet: "President Trump and House Republicans’ 'Big Beautiful Bill' is just an ugly nightmare. This scam of a bill strips health care from 16 million Americans and adds over $2.4 trillion to the deficit, all to give a giant tax break to millionaires and billionaires who don’t need it."

Betty McCollum has been serving in Congress since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001 after previously serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until her congressional election. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, she holds a BA from St. Catherine University.
