Rep. Betty McCollum, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 4th district, recently shared several updates on her legislative activities and public service announcements through social media.

On May 5, McCollum expressed her support for legislation aimed at awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to members of the "Miracle on Ice" U.S. Hockey team. She highlighted that "12 of our fellow Minnesotans played on that legendary team!" This act acknowledges the historic victory and contributions of these athletes.

Later that day, she informed constituents about upcoming changes in domestic travel regulations starting May 7. According to McCollum, "you can't fly domestically with only a standard driver's license." Travelers will need two proofs of residency, a passport or birth certificate, and a Social Security Card to obtain a REAL ID.

On May 7, McCollum discussed her role in overseeing priorities for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force as part of her leadership within the Appropriations Committee Democrats. She noted concerns over defense spending and transparency from President Trump's administration regarding budget proposals: "Defense spending is already high, and we have far too few details from President Trump's Pentagon on his defense budget proposals."

McCollum has been serving in Congress since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001 and has been an active representative of Minnesota’s interests both locally and nationally.
