Representative Betty McCollum, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 4th district since 2001, recently expressed concerns via social media regarding significant issues impacting both her district and the nation. On her Twitter account, McCollum addressed topics ranging from Medicaid to gun violence, reflecting her commitment to advocating for health care and public safety.

In a tweet dated April 16, 2025, McCollum highlighted the dependency of Minnesota's newborns and their mothers on Medicaid, stating, "In Minnesota, one out of three newborns and their mothers depend on Medicaid for healthy birth care. We must work together to protect Minnesotans’ access to these services that are keeping our families and communities healthy, safe, and economically stable." This underscores her stance on the importance of Medicaid support to maintain economic and health stability within the community.

Continuing her advocacy for Medicaid, on April 17, 2025, McCollum addressed legislative threats to the program, stating, "Medicaid keeps our families safe, healthy, and financially secure — but Republicans are trying to make the largest cut to Medicaid in American history to pass massive tax cuts for billionaires. I'll always fight against Republican efforts to take away Minnesotans' healthcare." McCollum's remarks underscore her opposition to proposed Republican cuts and her commitment to defending healthcare access.

In another post on April 17, 2025, McCollum mourned the tragedy of a school shooting at Florida State University. She tweeted, "It’s heartbreaking to learn of a school shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. There have already been 98 mass shootings just four months into 2025. These are preventable acts of senseless brutality. We must take action to end gun violence." This message calls for urgent measures to address gun violence, stressing the preventability of such incidents.

Betty McCollum, born in Minneapolis and currently residing in Saint Paul, Minnesota, remains a dedicated public servant. With a background in Minnesota's House of Representatives and a degree from St. Catherine University, her legislative career continues to focus on key issues like healthcare and public safety for her constituents.
