Rep. Betty McCollum, who has been representing Minnesota's 4th District in the United States Congress since 2001, recently took to social media to express her concerns and rally support against proposed policy changes by President Trump. Her messages were centered on the possible impacts to critical social programs and the public's response in her home state.

In a message posted on April 5, 2025, McCollum announced her presence at the Capitol and invited others to join her in protesting against the potential cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, and Veterans' Benefits. She framed these proposed cuts as measures to fund tax reductions for wealthy individuals, stating, "I’ll be at the Capitol today. I invite you to join me and your fellow Minnesotans to rally against President Trump’s scheme to gut Social Security, Medicaid, and Veterans’ Benefits to fund tax cuts for his billionaire donors. See you at noon. #HandsOff".

Later the same day, McCollum shared the success of the gathering, highlighting Minnesotan's unified stance against certain high-profile figures. She tweeted, "Minnesotans are here to show Elon Musk and President Trump that we’ve had enough! #handsOff" on April 5, 2025.

Reflecting on the event, Rep. McCollum further elaborated two days later, on April 7, 2025, about the policy challenges and the large-scale public opposition witnessed. She tweeted, "Elon Musk and President Trump are trying to break Medicaid and Social Security. They're attacking the free press, defunding colleges and universities, and rolling back our rights. This weekend, Minnesotans gathered by the thousands to say #HandsOff!".
