Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum has expressed strong opinions through a series of tweets shared on April 1, 2025. These tweets touched on various topics, including the honoring of a World War II veteran, a criticism of Elon Musk's statements about USAID, and concerns regarding the mishandling of sensitive information by national security officials.

In her first tweet of the day, Rep. McCollum honored Gordy Kirk, who passed away on March 2, just three weeks shy of his 102nd birthday. McCollum described Kirk as "a proud member of Saint Paul’s Rondo neighborhood" and noted his role as a World War II combat veteran who served in the segregated ranks of the Armed Forces.

Later, McCollum addressed statements made by Elon Musk in a tweet, accusing him of lying about USAID. She stressed the importance of USAID's work around the world, which she claims helps "the hungry and those suffering under authoritarian regimes and disasters," while also preventing global problems from reaching American shores. McCollum mentioned joining her fellow House Democrats in filing an amicus brief in support of USAID.

In a subsequent tweet, McCollum raised concerns about President Trump’s national security officials mishandling sensitive information. She highlighted a "pattern" of such behavior, emphasizing that personal email accounts are not suitable for official national security business, and stressed that any government officials found engaging in this practice should face consequences.
