Rep. Betty McCollum, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district, shared her thoughts and condolences through a series of tweets on March 13 and 14, 2025. Her messages touched on personal loss, economic concerns, and political calls to action.

On March 13, Rep. McCollum expressed her condolences to the family of Congressman Raúl Grijalva. She reflected on their time together on the Education & Workforce Committee, highlighting their collaborative efforts to enhance public education and access to higher education. "I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Congressman Raúl Grijalva."

The following day, March 14, she commented on the economic impact of President Trump's policies. McCollum noted a significant decline in the S&P 500 index by over 10%, attributing this downturn to what she described as "reckless economic policies" by President Trump and specifically citing the adverse effects of tariffs imposed under his administration. "The S&P 500 has plunged over 10% in response to President Trump's reckless economic policies."

Later that same day, Rep. McCollum urged Senate Democrats led by Leader Schumer to oppose a government funding bill proposed by Republicans. She emphasized the importance of listening to American citizens' voices in legislative decisions regarding such significant matters. "The voices of the American people must be heard."
