Rep. Betty McCollum, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 4th district since 2001, recently shared her views on critical trade issues and national security via social media. McCollum, a native of Minneapolis, highlighted the potential economic impact of trade disruptions and expressed concerns over recent administrative actions affecting international aid.

On February 2, 2025, Rep. McCollum emphasized the consequences of disrupting a significant trading partnership: "Disrupting this critical trading partnership comes at a steep cost paid for by working Americans — not the countries importing their goods into the U.S."

In another tweet on the same day, she discussed regional implications for those in the Great Lakes area due to tariffs: "All of us in the Great Lakes area will feel the impact of these tariffs more than any other part of the United States. We share a peaceful border with Canada. They are fabulous trading partners and we both know how to play fair, especially when it comes to hockey."

On February 3, 2025, McCollum addressed concerns about an alleged shutdown involving USAID: "The Trump-Musk illegal shutdown of @USAID is a serious attack on our national security. USAID’s work is a better and cheaper option to promote political stability than the alternative – more American boots on the ground and more money for bullets and bombs to fight terrorism."
