Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) released the following statement today ahead of Monday's observance of Memorial Day:

“On the last Monday in May, we reflect on the stories and sacrifices of the fallen heroes who have lost their lives defending our nation at home and abroad throughout our nation’s history. As we gather in our communities all across America to pay tribute, I invite everyone to join me in taking a moment to reflect and offer our thanks to all those who gave the last true measure of devotion in service to our nation. Our nation owes a debt of gratitude for the bravery and courage of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Guardians—and their families—who have sacrificed so much in the name of protecting our country and the ideals for which it stands. Today and every day, let's recommit to doing our part to uphold our American values of freedom, democracy, and opportunity, so that the sacrifice of our fallen heroes will not have been made in vain.”

On Monday, May 29, 2023, Congresswoman McCollum will attend the National Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

A note from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA): VA's National Cemetery Administration invites Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors—as well as members of the public—to attend these solemn wreath-laying ceremonies, which will take place throughout Memorial Day weekend. A commemoration ceremony open to the public will take place on Monday, May 29 at 10am CT at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A complete list of Memorial Day events can be found here.
