Hamline Church United Methodist issued the following announcement on Feb. 14.
Thank you for making the Music and Arts Series’ performance of Rondo ‘56 on Sunday, February 5, a smashing success. Hamline Church welcomed close to 400 guests who were treated to a portrait in music, stories and archival photos of St. Paul’s thriving Black neighborhood in the ‘40s and ‘50s, before it was sliced down the middle to make room for Interstate 94.
Featuring some of Minnesota’s finests performers: T Mychael Rambo, Thomasina Petrus, and Dan Chouinard, plus a stellar band. We are especially grateful for the collaboration with the Community Conversation Eccumenical Consortium, who organized a post show panel discussion featuring Nathaniel Khaliq, Vanne Owens Hayes, JD, and William ‘Corky’ Finney, all who were children of the Rondo neighborhood.
Generous donations from the event were split between the Music & Arts Series, the Community Conversations group, and fundraising efforts for JuVaughn Turner. Thank you also to Wesley Center for Spirituality, Service, and Social Justice for refreshments from Golden Thyme Coffee & Cafe, Music and Arts Series volunteers, Brianne Bland Photography for the pictures, and Hamline Church staff!
