The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and East Metro Chamber partners will host the annual Leaders in Local Government Awards Ceremony.
The event will take place Thursday, Sept. 17 and the chamber will honor five organizations and an elected official.
According to a Chamber of Commerce news release, nominees will be selected based on the contributions with respect to innovative initiatives and public policies that advance the public good and demonstrate a commitment to efficient and progressive government.
The keynote speaker will be former Sen. Norm Coleman, who served 2003 to 2009 and served on the foreign relations committee. The press release said Coleman was a student activist in the 1960s. In addition, he was Minnesota's chief prosecutor and solicitor general in the 1970s and 1980s, and mayor of St. Paul in the 1990s.
After working in the Senate, Coleman worked as a senior counsel at Hogan Lovells.
Coleman continues to be active in a variety of political organizations and nonprofits. He is the chairman of the Congressional Leadership Fund and served as chairman of the board for the American Action Network.
Currently, he is co-chair of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and serves as National Chairman of the Republican Jewish Coalition.
