The St. Thomas women’s basketball team ended its road trip with a 70-58 win over North Dakota on Saturday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Tommies improved their record to 14-14 overall and 7-7 in Summit League play.
Senior Faith Feuerbach led St. Thomas with 21 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the field and making five three-pointers out of nine attempts. This was her second game this season scoring more than 20 points and her first since November. Mikayla Werner contributed a career-high 17 points, hitting seven of her nine shots, while Jada Hood collected a team-leading 10 rebounds.
St. Thomas started strong with a 6-0 run but trailed by two at the end of the first quarter as North Dakota responded with a surge. In the second quarter, St. Thomas regained control and went into halftime leading 31-27, with Feuerbach leading all scorers at that point.
After halftime, both teams traded baskets before St. Thomas put together an 8-2 run to take a double-digit lead for the first time in the game. The Tommies maintained their advantage through the third quarter and entered the fourth up by five points.
In the final period, St. Thomas opened with a decisive run to extend its lead to as many as 18 points. The team shot nearly 47 percent from the field in the fourth quarter and made all three free throws attempted while limiting North Dakota to just 30 percent shooting in that stretch.
St. Thomas will return home for its last regular-season game at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena on Wednesday, February 25 against Kansas City at 7:00 p.m., where longtime head coach Ruth Sinn will be honored before tipoff. The first 100 students attending will receive free replica jerseys.
