The University of St. Thomas swim and dive teams concluded their participation in the Summit League Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, finishing fifth overall for both men’s and women’s competitions.
On the women’s side, the team accumulated 410.5 points over four days. Sophomore Ellie Undem secured a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.58, earning All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season. “Undem earned All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season, this time in the 100 freestyle. The sophomore earned her spot in the 100 freestyle ‘A’ final thanks to her time of 50.92. In the finals, she not only improved her time, but swam the second fastest in program history, securing bronze medal honors with a time of 50.58.” Mary Selden finished 13th and Amber Hess took 15th place in the same event.
Sophia Hayes set a new school record in the 1650 freestyle with a personal best of 17:10.06, placing fifth in that race. Clare Liebl narrowly missed a podium finish by taking ninth place, while Tessa Lindstrom finished tenth and Katie Prunty contributed with a 13th-place finish.
Jordyn Davis qualified for the “B” final in the 200 backstroke and finished twelfth; Willow Larsen placed sixteenth in that event’s “B” final. In the 200 butterfly, Emily Wooden finished sixth overall as Madison Parkin and Izzy Shering placed tenth and thirteenth respectively.
Tessa Jones and Brooke Gothard placed twelfth and thirteenth respectively in the “B” final of the 200 breaststroke; Izabelle Schwartz was fifteenth.
On diving events, Maya Kelly reached eighth place on the three-meter board after qualifying for “A” finals with a score of 238.70. Zoey Johnson competed in “B” finals and finished fourteenth.
The women’s relay team—Undem, Hess, Gothard, and Selden—finished fifth in the closing event with a time of 3:27.47.
For men’s results on Saturday, St. Thomas also ended up fifth overall with a total score of 349.5 points across four days.
Charlie Folks achieved an eighth-place finish—and set a program record—in the men’s 1650 freestyle with his personal best time of 15:53.50.
Tucker Holmes came tenth in that race while Holmes also joined Lucas Becker to finish seventh and eighth respectively in the men’s 200 backstroke.
In other races, John Trosper placed fifth with his season-best performance (1:49.13) while Tommy Seiler was sixth (1:50.75) during the men’s 200 butterfly; Miguel San Jose finished sixteenth.
Sean Bannon took tenth place while Jensen Richard came twelfth during their “B” final swims for men’s breaststroke; Joseph Sandhoefner rounded out at sixteenth position.
The men’s relay team—Philip Jensen, Trosper, Becker, and Nicholas Salido—finished fifth while breaking their own previous program record by .03 seconds with a time of 3:01.82.
