The St. Thomas Tommies softball team will compete in the Mardi Gras Mambo tournament in Youngsville, Louisiana, following a strong opening weekend where they achieved a 4-1 record and outscored opponents by 30 runs. The team hit 14 home runs, ranking among the top four nationally, with contributions from seven different players.
The Tommies are scheduled to play five games at the Youngsville Sports Complex. Their first matchup is against Sam Houston on Friday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a game against Nicholls at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, February 14, St. Thomas will face Louisiana Tech at 3:00 p.m. and #25 Southeastern Louisiana at 5:00 p.m. The final game of the weekend is set for Sunday morning against Northwestern State.
St. Thomas has not previously played Sam Houston. The team’s history with Nicholls stands at one win and one loss; their last meeting was a close extra-inning victory in which Avery Wukawitz had two hits including a triple and Ella Cook pitched over four innings with five strikeouts.
Against Louisiana Tech, St. Thomas also holds an even record after winning their last encounter in 2023 with both Wukawitz and Cook contributing offensively and Cook pitching two scoreless innings.
Southeastern Louisiana has won all four previous matchups against St. Thomas, while Northwestern State has defeated the Tommies twice in recent years.
