The St. Thomas baseball team opened its season with a 7-1 loss to Abilene Christian on Friday afternoon in Abilene, Texas. Tanner Recchio was responsible for the only run batted in for the Tommies, while four different players recorded hits during the game.
The scoring began in the third inning when Adam Puder reached base with a single and later scored on Recchio’s infield single. Abilene Christian tied the game in the fifth inning and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth after an RBI single. The Wildcats extended their lead with two runs in the seventh inning, which included a bases-loaded walk and an error. They added two more runs in the eighth through another bases-loaded walk and a fielder’s choice, bringing the final score to 7-1.
St. Thomas will continue its series against Abilene Christian from February 14 to 15 at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark in Abilene, Texas.
