Rep. Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted several messages on her official Twitter account between February 17 and 18, 2026. Her posts addressed a recent loss in the military and offered greetings to communities celebrating Lunar New Year and Ramadan.
On February 17, McCollum expressed condolences regarding the death of a Marine: “I offer my condolences to the family and fellow Marines of Lance Cpl. Chukwuemeka E. Oforah, who died while deployed in the Caribbean following a tragic incident late last week. America’s service members make extraordinary sacrifices to defend our nation, and we honor their” (posted on February 17, 2026).
Later that day, she extended holiday wishes to those celebrating Lunar New Year: “Happy Lunar New Year! I’m wishing all those marking the start of the #YearOfTheFireHorse in Minnesota & around the world a joyful celebration and a year filled with growth, resilience, and prosperity.” (posted on February 17, 2026).
On February 18, McCollum also marked the beginning of Ramadan for Muslim constituents: “Ramadan Mubarak to all those who celebrate! Wishing my constituents and community members around Minnesota a blessed month full of renewal and reflection as they celebrate with family and friends!” (posted on February 18, 2026).
McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954, McCollum currently resides in Saint Paul. She graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
