Rep. Betty McCollum, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district, has recently shared her thoughts on various topics through social media posts. McCollum, who succeeded Bruce Vento in 2001 and has been serving since then, addressed issues ranging from Native American heritage to civic participation in elections.

On November 3, 2024, Rep. McCollum acknowledged Native American Heritage Month by emphasizing the significant contributions of Native Americans to the nation’s history and future. She stated her commitment to “uphold treaty rights, honor tribal sovereignty, and improve opportunities for Native communities.” “During Native American Heritage Month, we recognize and honor the countless ways that Native Americans have shaped this nation’s past, present and future.”

Later that day, she urged citizens to participate in the upcoming election on Tuesday. She highlighted the importance of voting as a fundamental aspect of democracy and encouraged people to vote regardless of their political preferences. “Election Day is on Tuesday! Democracy works best when all of us participate — which is why I strongly encourage you to cast a ballot on or before election day.”

On November 5, 2024, Rep. McCollum reminded Minnesotans that polling stations were open and encouraged them to exercise their right to vote by finding their designated polling places. “The polls are open, Minnesota! Make your voice heard today and get out to vote.”
