Rep. Betty McCollum, a distinguished figure serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district since 2001, voiced strong criticism against President Trump on April 4, 2025, via social media posts. McCollum, a graduate of St. Catherine University, has been a dedicated public servant, first in the Minnesota House of Representatives and then in Congress, following the late Bruce Vento. Her tweets highlighted her concerns about the President’s actions that she feels are detrimental to national interests and disrespectful to the armed forces.

In her first social media comment dated April 4, 2025, McCollum expressed her disapproval of President Trump’s absence during the return of four deceased U.S. soldiers to Dover Air Force Base. Instead, the President was engaged in a leisure activity. “The remains of four U.S. soldiers return to Dover Air Force Base today, and President Trump couldn’t be bothered to be present for it. Instead, he’s golfing at Mar-a-Lago. Trump is paying more attention to a Saudi-backed golf tournament than he is to our nation’s fallen heroes.”

Later the same day, McCollum discussed a significant shift in leadership at the National Security Agency. She highlighted the firing of top NSA officials by President Trump, alleging that these dismissals were made to protect appointees who violated security protocols. “President Trump fired NSA’s top officials who upheld security standards while shielding his 18 appointees who jeopardized it by using Signal for classified info. Scapegoating qualified leadership to protect his appointees who broke the law is disgraceful!”

In another post from the same day, McCollum expressed her determination to maintain transparency regarding her accounts of the current administration. She emphasized her commitment to sharing a comprehensive narrative of national events and challenges. “I’m not going to let this Administration rewrite history. I’m prepared to tell the full story — the good things, the bad things, and the challenges we face together as a nation.”
